Finding Unused FM Frequencies

Finding Unused FM Frequencies - MP3PlayerAdvisor.comMost of us find it hard to find an unused FM frequency, especially in urban areas the solution comes with Radio-Locator website.

Once you are on the main page, enter your zip code, or city name, click “go” and a list of FM radio stations near your area will be loaded.
Just above the first station name you will see “Find unused frequencies” click that link and you will see a list of unused FM frequencies, divided to 3 columns based on quality (Best, Next Best, Third Best) Tune your FM Radio system to the best FM frequency and you will end up with the clearest station in your area.

Bluetooth Media Player VS. CD Player

Music through the Bluetooth connection is comparable to CD quality; crisp and clear with good bass, in fact, if you factor in the skips you’d experience with a CD player whenever you hit a sleeping policeman/ bump, you’ll appreciate the advantage of having a Bluetooth over a CD player.

Best Bluetooth FM Transmitters

#1 Nulaxy AP-0674/ KM18 Review

Best Car MP3 FM Transmitter - Nulaxy-Wireless-In-Car-Bluetooth-FM-TransmitterNulaxy wireless in-car Bluetooth FM transmitter AP-0674 model or as written in the box KM 18, was first introduced to the market in November of 2015, and became an instant hit as 2016 begun, ranking no 2 as a best seller in the FM transmitters category on Amazon, with more than 500 customer reviews with an average of 4.5 at the time of writing this review.

Design/ Build Quality

The first thing you’ll notice about this car mp3, is the big LCD display, which is big enough to display, FM frequencies, volume level, and whether it’s paired or not, also it shows the track title, and when you receive or make a phone call, it will display the caller ID.

The control buttons are very intuitive. On the face of the device, there are two buttons (CH-, CH+) for changing the FM channels, and just below them there are two buttons (<<, >>) to skip tracks, fast- forward or rewind them.

The final button is a multi function button, with a wireless kind of logo, when you press it, it will Play/ Pause the music, and when you twist it to either side, it will increase or decrease the volume.

On the right side there is a 3.5mm Auxiliary cable input, and an SD card slot that supports up to 32GB.

The Nulaxy wireless in-car Bluetooth FM transmitter has a flexible gooseneck, so it won’t bother anyone who has the cigarette outlet near the shifter, which is good, and also it comes with a USB port to keep paired devices full of juice.

Reception and Hands-Free Calling

The reception of Nulaxy car MP3 is very good if not great, there is no FM transmitter that is static free, that said, users who tested it in different FM channels in different locations, most of them rated it static free, but some of them who live in urban areas noticed a slight static, but not too noisy, again, you need to find an unused channel in order to have no static.

One thing I should declare, after several weeks of using the Nulaxy KM car mp3, some users were surprised that the guiding language that says “Bluetooth connected” and other information converted to Chinese, and they tried to convert it back, but with no success. We’ll try to find a solution for this problem, and we’ll let you know once it’s solved if it can be.

It will automatically connect to the last paired device, and audio calls are amazing with high quality stream.

Support Music and Navigation Apps

It’s been tested with music apps, such as Apple Music, Amazon Music, Pandora and even Navigation apps, such as Google Maps and Apple Maps, the sound is clear and amazing.

To sum up, if you get pass the non English guiding sound, Nulaxy wireless in-car Bluetooth FM transmitter AP-0674/ KM18 is great for people who have cars lacking Aux port or a modern car stereo with a very affordable price.

#2 GOgroove FlexSMART X2 Review

GoGroove FlexSMART X2If you don’t have an auxiliary port in your radio system, and you’re looking for the best MP3/ FM transmitter to sync your music through Bluetooth, you’ll find GOgroove FlexSMART X2 the answer for your search.

Design/ Control Buttons

GOgroove FlexSMART X2 is number 2 in our list of the best MP3 players for cars, because it has a simple, intuitive design, flexible gooseneck, responsive buttons, and dedicated on/off button located in the DC neck, and it has Bluetooth.

The color of this unit is gray incorporated with the black, it has a 3.5 mm auxiliary input to sync music through your phone.
It has 2 microphones built-in to deliver a nice quality audio calls, so the other person in-line, would hear you just fine.

Also, this unit has a USB charging port, to allow the paired phone stay charged.

Pairing with Phones

To enter the pairing mode, press and hold the blue dial icon on GOgroove FlexSMART X2 for 2 seconds, once it’s ready, both dialing icons will start to blink, then go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone, you’ll find the FM Transmitter under the name FlexSMART X2, press connect, in about 5 seconds you’ll be connected.

Through user experience I found that only 1 device can be active at a time, so if you’re looking to pair 2 two phones simultaneously you can’t.

If you like to pair another phone, you follow the same instruction; you just make sure the first device is disconnected.

Reception Quality/ Tuning

While the GOgroove FlexSMART X2 can connect to even numbers on your car radio system (89.7, 89.8…) some radio systems won’t allow even numbers.

The solution to this will be; for example, the FM transmitter is set to 89.8, then you set your radio system to either 89.7 or 89.9, try both and see which one is stronger, and if you noticed that while your radio system is on 89.9 sounds better, then you turn the FlexSMART X2 to 89.9 and you’ll have the best reception.

You can use Navigation apps, such as Google Maps, Apple Maps and TomTom while listening to your music, but once the lady on the app speaks, the music sound would temporarily turn softer, letting you hear the GPS directions, till it shuts up, then, the music sound would turn back to its normal rate.

Hands-Free Calling

In order to answer incoming phone calls, you have to be on a blank station, because the unit doesn’t have a speaker built-in, what you can do is; to set a blank station under #1 button in your radio system, and every time you have incoming calls, you press that button.

GOgroove FlexSMART X2 is the most rated FM transmitter on Amazon, it’s been on the market since 2010 and has 4.2 stars, having at the time of this review about 7700 costumer reviews, while the second position have something around 2000 reviews.

All in all, if you’re looking for a car MP3 player FM transmitter that let you; play music seamlessly, receive and make phone calls, and hear the navigation directions from your phone, GOgroove FlexSMART X2 does all that, at a competitive price.

#3 Mpow Streambot Y Bluetooth Review

Mpow Streambot Y Bluetooth FM TransmitterI always wanted to use something more wireless; something doesn’t have cables everywhere, and has Bluetooth. That’s when I stumbled into the Mpow Streambot Y Bluetooth FM Transmitter, a device that claims to solve this very issue.

Design and Build Quality

If you have a car with no AUX port, then Mpow is a good option, it comes with two separate parts, a Bluetooth FM transmitter for car, and 12V power adapter, which has a USB port to keep the paired phone charged, and a flexible gooseneck at the top, where you mount the Bluetooth FM transmitter magnetically, which is a really nice feature to have, so you don’t need to take the whole thing and stash it somewhere out of sight.

Control Buttons

On the top of Mpow there is the logo, which is also a Play/ Pause button, and you have that aluminum look ring which is a volume control, there is a surrounding ring that light whenever the FM transmitter is on, and there is a red LED display that indicates the FM frequency, just beside it, there is a track changing buttons made separate, getting down there is a slim aluminum look alike ring to set your frequency.

Making Phone Calls

While you can have hands free audio calls through Mpow Streambot Y Bluetooth, the microphone is descent, sometimes there other person in line, they hear screeching sound, it would be much appreciated if they had included a good microphone, especially when they didn’t put an automatic FM tuning option or 3.5mm input.

Easy Pairing

Pairing Mpow Streambot Y Bluetooth with a phone is easy, and the good thing is that you can connect more than one phone, I have a Galaxy S5 and an iPhone 6 and they both connect and remember the connection.

If your first priority is streaming music, and not making phone calls, you’ll find Mpow Streambot Y Bluetooth an easy to use car MP3 player FM transmitter, with cool design and features.

GOgroove FlexSMART X3 Review

GOgroove FlexSMART X3 Bluetooth FM TransmitterIf you require getting a Bluetooth audio for your phone, iPad or Android devices, GOgroove FlexSMART X3 Bluetooth FM Transmitter might be the answer for you, as it came after the successor of FlexSmart X2 and have some appreciable improvements.

Design/ Build Quality

The design of the GOgroove FlexSmart X3 is unique and has a cool edge look, it comes only in Platinum white color, I wish it came in black though, it has LCD display where frequency numbers are shown in red, and on the sides of the display you have your answer and hang up icons.

The only flaw I have noticed about GOgroove FlexSmart X3 design, it’s a bit bulky, takes up quite a bit of space depending on where your power source is, so, it could cause a problem in the way of the shifter if it is near the charger outlet, even though it has a flexible goose-neck, but it’s still better than $500 for a new radio/sound system.

The buttons on this premier MP3 FM transmitter are just like the ones on iPod shuffle 4th generation (circular), small wheel where play/ pause buttons contained in the big wheel, where you change tracks and volume, the light color behind the buttons is neat, because of that cool blue futuristic appearance, it looks like something out of Tron Legacy though there is no orange.

Quick Scan

To set your FM frequency, press and hold the + or – button for a couple seconds and let go. Pressing repeatedly the + or – button will adjust the frequency, or keep holding and let go when the desired frequency is reached.

To use the quick scan feature, press and hold the Play/ Pause button, and it will scan for a clear station in your area.

Pairing with Phones

Pairing GOgroove FlexSmart X3 FM Transmitter is simple and easy, to pair it with your phone you don’t have to press anything on the unit to make it “ready” to pair, it automatically shows up on your list of Bluetooth devices, though it pairs back up to your phone again automatically, occasionally I have to go to my phone and select the FM transmitter to complete the Bluetooth connection.

I like how this FM transmitter car kit connects and quickly syncs with phones, and resume the music at the same spot where it left off when you turned it off, each time the vehicle is restarted, it quickly syncs and gave the obligatory “beep” to let you know your phone is connected.

Hands-Free Calling

Hands-free calling feature works great and the quality of sound is loud and clear, whether you are making a call or receiving one, it is very well built, has dual spring loaded clips and fits tightly into the charger outlet.

All in all, if the bulkiness of this device doesn’t bother you, or you have some space between the shifter and the car charger outlet, then GOgroove FlexSmart X3 might be a great choice.

Features and Specifications

  • LED Display
  • Stylish design, Durable
  • Bluetooth
  • Great audio calls
  • Auxiliary Inputs IN and OUT
  • USB Charging Port
  • Good customer support

CONS

  • It comes only in white color
  • It is quite a bit bulky

iClever IC-F53 Review

iClever IC-F53 Wireless BluetoothIf you have an old car that doesn’t have an AUX input or Bluetooth capabilities that allow you to stream music from your phone or take phone calls hands-free, and you’re looking for something to solve that very issue, then iClever IC-F53 Bluetooth FM transmitter might be the solution, as it is very simple and reliable.

Design Build Quality

The black iClever IC-F53 Bluetooth FM transmitter feels sturdy, it has a rounded display showing the FM frequencies, which is also a dial control to answer incoming phone calls and end them.

Surrounding the display there is a multi function grip, you use it mainly to change the FM frequencies, also if you twist it clockwise, it will advance to the Next song and counter-clockwise to go Back.

The minor issue that I found about this unit is the FM frequency display, it’s a bit difficult to read in bright light, but since we are typically not going to change it that often, it doesn’t matter.

It is easy to set up and everything laid out well in the included instructions, in addition to Bluetooth capability, iClever IC-F53 has a Micro SD slot under the rubber grip, so you can easily play the music files stored on the card, it comes with a full option remote control, to change songs, play a specific track by number, play/ pause, navigate through folders, and an equalizer mode.

Bluetooth Pairing

What I like most about using Bluetooth FM transmitters is; the ability to take and make phone calls hands-free, which will translate in concentrating on the road and avoiding traffic tickets.

Once you plug the iClever IC-F53 the unit will start blinking letting you know that it’s not paired, to connect it to your phone you don’t need to press anything on the unit, go to your phone’s Bluetooth settings and you’ll find it under “IC-F53” Once it’s connected the unit will stop blinking.

The call volume and clarity of the microphone are excellent, as is the quality of music played.

If you don’t like to deal with wires, the iClever IC-F53 Bluetooth FM transmitter, is easy to use and wire free, having a Bluetooth and a Micro SD capability is another way of modernizing your car system.

Features and Specifications

  • Easy to use
  • LED Display

iClever Himbox HB01 Review

IClever HimBox HB01If you’re looking for a Bluetooth hands-free car kit with an Auxiliary cable, which has also an extra charging port for your phone, then you’ll find iClever Himbox HB01 to be the answer, not only that, but it has a lot of great features, even competitors with double its price do not have.

Design/ Control Buttons

IClever Himbox HB01 is made mainly from the a glossy plastic, it’s looks well made and not cheap at all, it has a small rounded shape with a magnetic plate, which is then mounted on the car with foam tape, you just have to find a convenient place where to do, and peel off the sticky pad.
Also, it comes with a clip mounted plate, in case you would like to attach it to something, or hang the cords on.

It has an LED indicator ring surrounding the HIMBOX logo at the center of the unit, which is also a multi-function button; we use it to Play/ Pause, Answer/ Hang up incoming calls, also if you double click it, it will dial the last person you’ve called or received a call from.

At the end of iClever Himbox HB01 there is a cable which diverges to two ends, the 1st is the USB charging cable, which you plug in the car charging adapter, and the 2nd is the Auxiliary 3.5mm input jack.

It has 1 extra USB charging port with 2.1 amps, to keep the phone paired fully charged.

Connecting to a Car Stereo

I have to highlight that this unit connects to the car radio system only through the AUX cable, and no FM transmission, so, if you don’t’ have an AUX port in your radio system, this unit won’t work for you.

Using Cigarette Outlet/ USB

You can choose the power supply for Himbox to either connecting it through cigarette outlet, or a USB charging port if you have one in your car.

Pairing Phones

To pair this unit with your phone, press and hold the center button for a couple seconds, till you hear the sound of the woman saying “pairing mode”, then go to your phone’s Bluetooth settings and connect to the unit under HB01 name.

Once the unit is connected, you can stream music or any audio that comes from your phone.

This hands-free car kit has an auto-connect feature, which allows you to automatically connect the last paired device, so you won’t have to connect it every time you get in the car.

The call quality of this unit is great, because it uses a noise cancelation technology, which will convert to the other person in-line with you hearing you well.

Overall, if you have an AUX port in your radio system, and you need to connect it to your devices via Bluetooth, you’ll find iClever Himbox HB01 to be a reliable piece with multi functions and features.

Best Non Bluetooth FM Transmitters

Soundfly AUX Review

SoundFly AuxSatechi is well-known company for making FM transmitters; Soundfly AUX is one of them.

Design/ Performance

When it comes to quality, functionality and reliability, Soundfly AUX is one of the best FM transmitters out there; it can play music through SD card, USB thumb drive, and Auxiliary cable, also it comes with a handy remote control which covers a lot of features.

Soundfly AUX FM transmitter comes in black with a silver finish; it has a simple design, though it could have better visuals.
The display is 1.5 inches, digits are readable, but the backlight has this dark tone, and the brightness level cannot be adjusted, however, you can adjust the contrast level by pressing menu/ shuffle 5 times, a level bar will pop up, then adjust it to the level you desire (Decrease << or >> Increase).

Control Buttons

It has very intuitive buttons, it has a play/ pause button, next/ forward, previous/ rewind, and 2 menu buttons, the right one is to enter the settings of the device, the left one is for changing between SD card and USB, and there is a power/ navigation button in the middle of the unit.

Also, the menu buttons have multiple functionalities:

Menu + << or >>: Change FM frequency
2 Clicks: Change the volume
3 Clicks: Select and change Bass
4 Clicks: Selects and change treble
5 Clicks:  Change contrast

For more information you can download the user’s manual here

Folder Navigation

Soundfly AUX FM transmitter comes with the functionality of navigating through folders, it comes really handy, especially if the audio files in folders are organized.

You can create up to 99 folders and have folder in folder up to a depth of 5, the maximum amount of songs is limited to 1999.

It supports up to 32GB whether it is a USB  flash drive or memory SD card, and it works better with 16GB, the less audio files it has to scan the faster it loads and perform.

If you’re playing songs from an MP3 player, and decided to play from the SD card or USB flash drive, you have to pause the MP3 player, because it will continue playing, even though you won’t hear it, just a thing I wanted to point out especially for people who listens to audiobooks.

RDS Support

It supports all FM frequencies from 88.1MHz to 107.9MHz, as well as (RDS); the meaning of RDS is Radio Data System, the technology that allows your radio to display the name of the song, track number and the folder name.

Bookmark

This unit doesn’t remember where it left off; it will play the song from the beginning.
In order to use the bookmark feature, you will have to press the bookmark button on your remote control before you shut off the unit.

It’s nice to have the bookmark feature, but it could’ve been great memorizing where it left off without the need of pressing the bookmark button.

All in all, if you prefer Sound Quality and reliability over the look of the device, the Soundfly AUX FM transmitter is reliable to keep the music flowing.

Features and Specifications

  • Simple to Use
  • Intuitive Buttons
  • LED Display
  • Fully Functional Remote Control

Avantek FM Transmitter Review

Avantek FM TransmitterWhen you first hold Avantek, you will notice that it is a little bit light, still, once you try you’ll know how well built it is, it comes in black color with blue color surrounds the surface, it has a simple design yet chic and modern, it’s well presented in a nicely presented pack.

Control Buttons

This FM transmitter has a four responsive good size buttons in front, play/ pause button with a rounded shape, previous track/ volume down combined in one button, also next track / volume up, combined as well in single button, and in the middle there is frequency adjustment button.

Clicking on the buttons, it’s smooth as it can get, and when it comes to turning the volume up or down, you will have to press and hold until the volume you like is set, the maximum it can get is at level 16, unlike some other brands where they may get till 30 or 40, still, Avantek can deliver a powerful clear sound.

Media Support and Use

Avantek is an MP3 player with USB port, which allows you to connect it to your USB flash drive, and also it can be used to charge your phone or tablet, also in that left side there is a 3.5mm AUX audio port input, which allows you to stream music or audio files MP3 or WMA format from your phone, tablet or laptop, without worrying about battery drain, or you can use it to stream music directly to your car stereo.

Avantek is one of the MP3 players with SD card slot, it’s on the right side of the device, and you can store your card memory with songs up to 32GB, but for optimum performance I will recommend you to use only 16GB, whether it’s memory card or flash drive, because the too much audio files it would analyze the slower it becomes, just like your phone when it’s new it performs smoothly, but once you loaded it with too many pictures and videos …etc, it will become somehow slower even if it is fast.

Power Supply

Avantek is powered by a standard 12/24 V vehicle DC outlet, it is easy to install, you just need to place the bottom end into your car charger outlet, and find a suitable unoccupied channel to use, and you then match the channel on the Avantek MP3 player FM transmitter to that of the car stereo using the buttons on the control panels.

Overall, if you’re looking for a simple car MP3 player FM transmitter, that combines ease of use and good quality at an affordable price, Avantek is a good option to be considered.

Soundfly SD Review

SoundFly SD FM TransmitterI think back to when FM transmitters first became popular devices just like a Walkman by Sony and wonder, what made them so great? Why did people get so excited?
The original Soundfly SD has been on the market for a while, but got a boost in recent years, thanks to its good reputation wide world.

Control Buttons

The Soundfly SD WMA/MP3 Player has two menu buttons, just like its predecessor, Soundfly AUX, the left one is to choose whether you like to play music from SD card or USB flash drive, and the right one is for navigating through songs or shuffling music, also it has a Play/ Pause button in the middle, Next/ Forward and Previous Rewind buttons, and each time you press a button, you will feel the click.

Remote control

With Soundfly SD remote control, you’ll find it easier to navigate through folders, and change the FM frequencies… etc, for best use you have to be in the same line to the FM transmitter, because this unit uses IR technology.

For more details on how to use the remote control properly, you can check this link

Media Support and Use

Soundfly SD is a car MP3 player FM transmitter modulator with memory SD slot, a USB port, which allows up to 32GB of storage, and a 2.5mm AUX audio input and output jacks, I wish they made it a 3.5mm, so I can use my iXCC 3.5mm AUX cable, the good thing they did is; to include a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable, so I won’t have to buy one, It also includes a fully functional remote control which is by the way easier to use than the buttons on the unit.

The Soundfly SD FM transmitter is a simple yet effective FM transmitter for owners of older cars, but the close range you have to be to the FM transmitter in order to change tracks, could be an issue for some.

JETech Auto-Scan FM Transmitter Review

JETech Wireless FM TransmitterThe JETech Auto-scan FM transmitter model has a simple yet lovable shape, it includes improvements in performance over previous models, and it also has an Auto-scan to find an empty station to connect to a device and transfer audio.

Design

This device comes in one piece, the power adapter and the FM Transmitter are all wired to a 3.5mm AUX cable jack, and it is the only mean to stream audio files, unlike Avantek or Soundfly, where you can use an SD card or USB flash drive.

The JETech FM transmitter is a small device that you connect at one end to your MP3 player or phone as long as it has a 3.5mm audio jack, and the other end into your charger outlet.

LED Display

The tuning digits are large, easy to read, and easy to tune, in order to tune your car radio to a station that gets a good clear reception you have to use the two buttons on either side of the transmitter’s digital display, which are the only buttons this device has, unlike previous FM transmitters we reviewed up top.

Getting the Clearest Reception

If you’re driving around town and notice any issues with signal, know that all FM stations use ODD numbers, so 89.1, .3, .5 etc. However, this device also allows you to select the even numbers, such as .4 and .8. , it all depends on your location and if there is any local interference, I recommend simply changing stations, ideally you’ll want to select a station with maximum static for the clearest reception, this would seem pretty obvious, but some people forget.

USB Charging Port

JETech FM transmitter compensates its lack of having a USB flash drive capability or SD card, by having a USB charging outlet, just like Mpow Streambot Y Bluetooth, to charge your phone or MP3 player while using it, which is a nice feature to have, the charger also outputs sufficient amps to charge a tablet and a phone, I’ve tried iPhone 6 and Galaxy Tab, they both went up 15% in about 20 minutes.

The only weakness about this device is the volume; it comes a little bit weak, and you can’t adjust volume control, but it comes nowhere near as bad as the dozens of others I’ve tried.

Connecting AUX

Connecting this device to your phone via the 3.5mm headphone jack, provide a secure and predictable connection. If you are planning on using a phone with a case on, the 3.5mm jack is a bit chubby and might not fit if there is only a narrow opening, this is only a problem for bulky cases such as Otter boxes and waterproof cases.

Overall, if you are looking for a simple and reliable car MP3 player FM transmitter, JETech FM transmitter Auto-scan is a great option.

Hi Summer, I have took a look at your website and I like the Car FM transmitters you provide on your website, especially the AD-956 model which is similar to Avantek.

Could you elaborate on why you selected the Nulaxy over the GoGroove?

Also, which device between the Nulaxy and the GoGroove would you say has superior build quality?

    I’m stuck between the two.

    Thanks!

I selected the Nulaxy over the GoGroove, mainly beacause of the ability to play music through Micro SD card, which Gogroove seems to lack, and also the price tag; Nulaxy is about $10-$15 less.

When it comes to build quality, GoGroove might seem slightly stronger, but, with good use and gentle handle, they’re both great. And Nulaxy is as equal in both performance and reliability.

I have a 2016 toyoya with the 7″ backup camera / navigation screen / app screen. What would be a good bluetooth MP3 player that would (if it is possible) display on the car screen for navigation or the MP3 player?

Hi, I’m just wondering if any of your Bluetooth FM Transmitters with mp3 players has a shuffle mode?
The review of some Non Bluetooth Transmitters say that they have this mode, but the Bluetooth does not say.
    thank you
    Eric.

Yes most of Bluetooth FM Transmitters they have the capability to shuffle audio. Let’s take Nulaxy for example:

1- Since you’re using Bluetooth to stream songs from your phone you can shuffle the songs through the app used to play music on your phone.

2- To shuffle from Nulaxy using onboard memory options, you can press and hold the the back arrow (the button used to select the previous song) for a couple of seconds and then it will have the option to shuffle your music collection.

I hope I managed to answer your question Eric.
